Gift of Darjeeling 1838 of the original Lepcha text

The proclamitation is being issued under the seal and authority of the Hon’ble Col. Llyod from Darjeeling on the 12th October,1838, of the Christian era, Correspondinto the ………………………….of the Bengali calendar.
As per the deed of gift Dated…………., The Hon’ble Raja of Sikkim, Due to great friendship, transferred, in the name of Hon’ble company Government, all the track of hilly land, lying to the east of chota Rangeet, Kahail and Balasan river: west of the rivers Rangyu and Mahananda and south of the great Rungeet.
Therefore, the company government taking charge of the above said lands, by issuing this ordinance, is being known that administrators i.e. the KUCHAWS, KARTHAKS,DINGPONS, and CHOWDHURIES along with the RAYATS, will no longer be under the control oh Hon’ble Raja, but from the date of the issue of proclamation , the LEPCHAS, BHUTIAS, MECHES, and DHIMMALS, and all those people residing under the region , as mentioned has become RAYATS of the company Government . Therefore , the inhabitants of the land, within the limits of the above named rivers , should, according to the rule, present themselves with their title deeds and other connected documents , along with their revenues at Darjeeling . what ever orders are issued by the government, that should be carried out, and besides these there should be no obeying any orders from any other source, and among those of the subjects, who have any other petition or complains or otherwise, they should present themselves at Darjeeling, where the case would be attended to with justice, fair deal, and without force or oppression,






THE FIRST PART OF THE TREATY IS IN LEPCHA FOLLOWED BY URDU ,HINDUSTANI, AND THEN IN BENGALI.
